Stress & Success

So, hello.

I am going to quickly start this blog by talking about two shows that I have watched on Netflix recently called Bodyguard and 13 Reasons Why. The reason I wanted to briefly mention these is because they address real life things that are happening day. They don't shy away from it. Terrorism and Politics are key themes within Bodyguard and for 13 Reasons - Sexual, physical and mental abuse, bullying, neglect, suicide, rape & murder to name just a few. These are definitely not shows for everyone, especially not the latter. But for people like me who want to be even more aware of the real stuff going on in the world around us, I think its good to watch. I really empathized with parts of 13 Reasons and I think many people would. Plus there is a small series for when you have finished the show where the cast and mental health professionals discuss certain scenes in the show and what to do when you are actually in a similar situation. They also have a website which an actor will read out the address to at the end of every episode and there are warnings at the start about what you will see within the show and to say that is certainly isn't for everyone. Anyway, that's enough about that. Please let me know if you have seen either of these shows and feel similarly to me, or disagree. I'd be interested to know.

So what did I get up to yesterday? If you've been following along, you will know I had the dreaded doctors appointment. I managed to get there and I usually get an uncomfortable stomach but it wasn't as bad as normal which is great. The doctor and myself agreed for me to stay on the higher dose of Sertraline as it seems to be having more of an effect on me now. I was also given a urine test which I need to do to test for diabetes. I plan to do that in the coming days. I also got another sick note and finally, she thinks I'm allergic to dogs. I have 2 dogs and I have been around dogs my entire life and never had any problems but apparently it can just happen. I have been given a steroid nasal spray to use twice a day for the next month to see if that improves my cough and if not, I may have to have a patch test to figure out exactly whats going on. She is convinced its not a cold or flu because she listened to my chest and I didn't sound clogged up at all so apparently its an allergy. So, more fun and games. I have another appointment booked with her for a months time to check in again.
After this, I walked with my partner back home through town and on the way, we popped into some charity shops. I bought a couple of bright coloured tank tops (all I ever where is black so this was brave) I bought some frisbees for the dog which we later played out in the back field with her and also a game of bowles. I haven't played that since I was a teenager so I thought it could be fun. We were supposed to be going into the city but there were strikes which meant that the trains were cancelled so we settled on going today instead.

Before we went to the city this afternoon, my best friend came over. I love her so much. She was already in town for an opticians appointment so we thought we would catch up for a couple of hours before she headed off home. We had some great chats and I gave her a friendship bracelet that I bought her a couple of weeks back for her (belated) birthday gift. She loved it thank goodness. Now wherever she goes, she'll have a part of me with her. She travels a lot and is off again on another 6 month adventure soon. I will definitely miss her but I'm hoping to see her later in the week to say goodbye and I'm so glad that she's chasing her dreams and making the most out of life.
Me and my partner then went to the city and had an amazing time. We had lunch at my favourite place (a dessert restaurant) and did some shopping. If you didn't know me - I LOVE Disney. I find it so cheerful, happy and joyful. So I bought a new sleep mask with Sleepy on it from Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. I needed a better one to help me sleep at night and I absolutely love this. It also had gel pads in them so I have put them in the fridge and hopefully I will be nice and cool tonight, I'm very excited. I also bought a shirt and a hot water bottle with a koala cover. Its very cute and very soft. Oh, and some Winnie the Pooh pajama bottoms! My best friend is Pooh and I'm Piglet. Its been that way for a while now. So, I just had to get them. Overall, a fantastic few days. Lots of fun and also lots of hard work. I had an excruciating headache due to the overwhelming noise and the commotion everywhere but its getting better now I'm home. Hopefully, that will go away in time.

Another busy day is planned for tomorrow - I will be going to my cousins house in the afternoon to help her pack as she is moving house soon and I am then going for an evening dinner picnic with a dear friend of mine. I will be seeing 2 of my favourite people in just 1 day - result!

I am hoping that by not giving in to my anxiety, low mood and physical symptoms and just doing things - I will continue to very slowly get better. I need to accept that there will be days where I can do less and days I can do more. There will be days where I can do nothing at all, but that's because I'm human. We're all human. And as long as we keep trying and keep plodding along, we will all get there. Just don't give up. <3
